Nils Økland Band is gearing up to make their USA tour debut with an appearance at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, and warm-up shows in Brooklyn and Chicago. Økland is supporting his 2015 LP out on ECM records titled Kjolvatn, a careful and emotive release that showcases its bandleaders’ ear for subtle sounds. As the label puts it:
Nils Økland is an innovative violinist and Hardanger fiddle master who is creatively expanding the range of the traditional music of his homeland, Norway. He describes his music as a “hybrid between the poetry of folk music and the energy of punk.”
