This very well may be the best headline I have to try and downsize all year. The legendary Herbie Hancock has been working with Terrace Martin on some new music, which we know through simply following the Kendrick Lamar associate on Instagram, but it looks like their project is getting closer to seeing the light of day.
On August 11th, Herbie and Terrace will join forces alongside guitarist Lionel Loueke, drummer Trevor Lawrence Jr., and bassist James Genus to create an exciting new quintet that promises “some new music that I’m working on and a new approach on some of my older tunes.” We can’t wait to see what these guys have up their sleeves.
While a show of this magnitude doesn’t need openers, we’re lucky enough to have the best band imaginable kicking off the show. Robert Glasper Experiment, the landmark jazzy neo-soul project from one of jazz’s most exciting pianist, will begin things with a rare summer appearance.
The show is also billed with ‘special guests,’ so who knows what else will be announced between now and August 11th. This Is Our Music & Le Poisson Rouge have really teamed up on a doozy here, and since neither party has ever steered us wrong, we’re counting down the days until we can lay in the prospect park grass and listen to some incredible music as the night falls.
Tickets for the show are available here.
