The String Cheese Incident begin Capitol Theatre run with a BANG!

The String Incident kicked off their Capitol Theatre run in pretty spectacular fashion on Saturday night. The packed house was treated to a couple of energetic sets from the Colorado sextet that included fan-favorites along with some more rare treats.

Set 1 wasted no time and featured some really spectacular jamming, particular in between “So Far From Home” and “Cedar Laurels”, along with an epic segue between “Piece of Mine” and “Let’s Go Outside”. Michael Kang was making the 5-string mandolin squeal throughout The Cap, and the crowd’s ecstasy filled the room.

Set 2 was a lengthy affair that – along with the encore – would take the show to the 4 hour mark! “Smile” was dedicated to Bill Nershi’s wife Jillian, which was a cute and adorable moment that made the whole crowd feel the love. A bust-out of The Beatles’ “Polythene Pam” marked the song’s first appearance in an SCI set since 2004!! That would segue into another Beatles song in the form of “She Cam In Through The Bathroom Window”, which hadn’t been played in almost two full years. “Rivertance” got pretty weird before dissolving into “Drums”.

Kyle Hollingsworth’s “The Big Reveal” followed after a story from Kyle about this experiences with The Grateful Dead. The Capitol Theatre is very much indebted to its experiences with the Dead, and SCI channeled the acid-rock legends as they took the song for a long and explorative ride before settling into “All We Got”.

The encore would be no short affair on this night, as a “We Love The Crew” jam lead way into “San Jose” before completing the “Desert Dawn” from the second set. Night one started the run off with a big bang, and it’ll be interesting to see if the Barefoot Boys can keep up the energy for the next two nights.
