The ol’ saying goes, “never miss a sunday show”, and a slightly newer variation of the adage says, “never miss an Umph show at The Cap.” Therefore it doesn’t take a mathematician to conclude that Umphrey’s McGee at The Capitol Theatre on Sunday October 14 is a must-go show.
Historically speaking, Umphrey’s McGee slays it at The Capitol Theatre. It’s only happened a few times, including the 2014 edition of UMBowl where the sextet blazed through four quarters of improv, covers, and fan-favorites. Last year they returned to The Capitol Theatre for two nights, kicking things off with a Tom Petty cover that had the crowd going wild. It was just a couple weeks prior that Petty passed away, and “Runnin’ Down a Dream” was quite the memorial for the Florida rock star.
On October 14, Umphrey’s McGee returns to The Capitol Theatre for what one can only assume will be another blistering display of prog-jam bliss. We can’t wait to see what covers and improvisational bits the band has in store for us this time, as they settle into the venue and start to create their own history and relationship with it, the same way bands like the Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Traffic, and Phish have over the years.
Tickets are still available here, and we recommend you go ahead and get ’em!
