Vulfpeck have risen quickly over the last year, becoming one of the premier bands in the jam / funk circuits after being virtually unknown just before that. The band rides high off their quirky online content, and matches it with a goofy – but definitely stellar – live show.
The other night, the Michigan quartet began their NYC residency, a stint that included a show in Central Park in addition to three at the Brooklyn Bowl. With Bernard Purdie, Eric Krasno, and collaborators Joey Dosik and Antwuan Stanley in tow, the show would prove to be quite the spectacle for fans of all parties involved.
Kraz kicked things off with tracks off his recently released record Blood From a Stone. The songs sounded great live, and were exclaimed with the longtime Soulive/Lettuce guitar players work on the fretboard.
Vulfpeck kicked things off with a new track before wasting no time inviting Krasno to the stage. Joey Dosik then joined the band for vocals on a couple of their collaborative tracks, including the great “Game Winner.” Bernard Purdie wasted no time before hopping into the mix, covering “Kid Charlemagne” by Steely Dan and “Something” by The Beatles in addition to smashing the kit on Vulfpeck’s renowned “Backpocket.”
Check out some videos along with the setlist below. Vulfpeck has another show at Brooklyn Bowl tonight, but it is sold out. Don’t miss these dudes when they come to your town.
