FESTIVAL PREVIEW: 10 Most Anticipated Acts on Northern Nights

norther-nights-music-festival-2015 lineup

It’s almost time again for Northern Nights music festival! Break out the tents and brace yourself for a magical weekend under the Redwood trees. Last year was a fantastic event, and they have always been so friendly and inviting towards the DubEra crew.

In 2014, I discovered two of my favorite artists: Odezsa and Mr.Carmack. It’s exciting to dig into this year’s lineup looking for new gems. So we bring you our 10 most anticipated artists we’re looking forward to at Northern Nights 2015

1.) Goldfish South Africa’s most exciting electronic duo is Goldfish. It’s always a pleasure getting funked up at Goldfish party, complete with live sax, flute, double bass and keyboards. Check out their remix of Sugar Man by Rodriguez.

2. ) Mr.Lif Following up on a serious note “Mr.Lif – Because they made it that way,” one of my all time favorite songs. Mr.Lif is one of the most ambitious and forward-thinking MCs in the game, and has worked with the likes of Polish Ambassador and Thievery Corporation. I would not miss this set for the world!

3.) The Polish Ambassador Due to his sense of community and positive thinking, we think Northern Nights and Polish are a great combination. Both the artist and the event demonstrate sustainable practices and are determined to set an industry precedent. Check out our recap video of The Polish Ambassador at Electric Forest.

4.) G. Jones Lets turn you guys up real quick with this one. To be honest, I prefer to get a little hood mid-day at festivals. G. Jones is probably going to be your best source for some gangster bass, so be sure to download this one for free!

5.) Black Star We can’t get much farther down this list without talking about the headliners. That’s right, Mos Def & Talib Kweli, two of the greatest MCs to ever do it. We look forward to adding Mos Def ( now Yasiin Bey ) to our photo archive, because right now we only have Talib to show for.

6.) Shlohmo (live) Henry Laufer, better known as Shlohmo, is going to play a “live” set at Northern Nights this year! It’s always great to see people break into the live aspect of electronic music, and we can’t wait to see what Shlohmo does with his band.

7.) Rüfüs Du Sol This three-piece Australian trio consists of Tyrone, Jon and James. Each member creates sound through guitar, keyboard, drums and vocals, and it has resulted in a huge impact on electronic music recently.

8.) Gallant This will be Gallant’s festival debut. There is no doubt someones going to get pregnant with all these sexy sounds going on. Check out this awesome cover of the Foo Fighters “Learn to Fly.”

9.) Slow Magic If anyone on my list is on the brink of making it big, it’s Slow Magic. He doesn’t want to classify his music as any particular genre, but here is a 30 minute Slow Magic mix to wet your palette.

10.)Autograf This trio brings an energizing swing to future house. They also released a 30 minute mix you can download for free. We look forward to seeing everyone at Cook’s Valley Campground at Northern Nights 2015!
