If you are unfamiliar with heRobust’s monster mix of dubstep, trap and rap, it may be time you remove yourself from that rock you’re living under. He’s not on the cover of Rolling Stone or anywhere on the Beatport charts, but he is destroying festivals and clubs around the country. Point being: you will hear about him sooner or later.
With the Rob & Hood EP, heRobust gives us 5 spankin’ new tracks that really mix those aforementioned genres all at the same time. Where most producers are doing the strong 808 kicks or the robot dubstep noises, you get a little bit of both here. Those machine gun snares with distorted bass whomps are a rare combo and they’re fun as hell. On “When You Was on Myspace” he utilizes those sounds along with a dope 2 Chainz sample, which basically epitomizes every sound that is hot at festivals right now.
Each beat plays like Mike Will Made It got his hands on some Bassnectar synths and basses. Toss some catchy rap samples on top and you have gems like “Dirty South” and the title track “Rob & Hood”. Kick the tempo up a notch and you have the glitchy “Beanie Babymomma”. In the end you have 5 epic original productions that are a great addition to the remix work homie did on Ludacris’ “Georgia”, Kanye’s “Mercy” and Flux’s “Bass Cannon”.
Be sure to catch heRobust at the Festival of Gnarnia on August 9th. He will be playing the 8-9pm slot on the Beava Dam! stage.
