I commend the organizers of FYF Fest. What looks like a list of artists that almost played Coachella is really one of the more interesting lineups you’ll see all year. Mostly because it doesn’t make any damn sense.
On day one you can see anything from the Black Flag reincarnation’s walking-stick hardcore punk rock to Simian Mobile Disco b2b Bicep. If you follow dance music that doesn’t promote neon RAGE! hats, that pairing should make the hairs on your arse stick up.
The second day is just as crazy. While indie rock sort of leads the pack with MGMT, Beach House and headlining My Bloody Valentine, Shlohmo and Flume will hold down for electronica lovers in a really great way. Those two up-and-coming artists really surprised me when I saw them and they prove that dance music doesn’t have to be all glitz wide-eyed and glam seizure-ous, but sometimes it’s cool to slow the fuck down or get funky with it.
To top it off, weekend passes are only $99, which is totally reasonable! From screamo to Shlohmo, this is a dope-ass lineup that makes me wish I was livin’ way out west.
