As festival goers migrated to Live Oak, Florida yesterday, The Main Squeeze and RAQ warmed up the cold woods of Suwannee. The Main Squeeze has a great soul vibe that left a big impression with a big sound. RAQ (w/ Michette from Disco Biscuits) played their first show in a few years and sounded incredible. Super fast, funky jamming made for a great time.
Then Break Science took the stage, absolutely ripping through their experimental electronic sound. Dubstep, trap style, glitch hop, Rihanna samples, Redman features… what can’t these dudes do? Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee are a couple of the most talented cats you can see on a stage together, but they kicked it up an extra notch last night by bringing out Adam Smirnoff of Lettuce. Sit-ins of epic proportions create that exclusive set we all love to catch.
Conspirator followed up with back-to-back sets. They started off with the hard-hitting dubstep “Pow Wow”, which caught some people off guard. The band has evolved in to a hard-hitting, bass-oriented group who are looking to leave their mark on the new generation of music. While some fans complain, hundreds of others are catching on as Conspirator gets more and more electronic. They even played a cover of Major Lazer’s “Jah No Partial”… and you can hate if you’d like, but it was damn wild. Have no fear old school heads, both sets were complimented with a few older jams, including “Orch Theme” and “Velvet Red”.
Then there was Perpetual Groove, playing what will be one of their last shows. It was a strange set, as they played a cover of Jay-Z’s “Can I Get A…” and teased Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” – something that caught everyone off guard. The group seemed just a little awkward on stage, like a couple getting a divorce forced to get along or something like that. It didn’t really effect the music too much and I’m excited to see them one last time tonight.
