Hangout Festival: Lotus, Railroad Earth & Umphrey’s deliver pre-party highs

A portion of the Hangout Festival crowd came together yesterday as Umphrey’s Mcgee, Railroad Earth, Lotus, Conspirator, Dillon Francis, Wick-It The Instigator, Benny Benassi and more rocked the early birds here in Alabama.

Lotus played a really energetic set in the same tent that later housed Dillon Francis and Benny Benassi. Highlights included “The Surf” and a recently-rare “Spiritualize.” The dudes were jamming really well together too. Lots of tempo changes and great solos.

Railroad Earth was a band I was really looking forward to seeing last night. Highlight of the set for me were the solos during “The Hunting Song.”

Umphrey’s Mcgee: Umphrey’s ended their hour fifteen minute set with a spectacular mash-up of MGMT’s “Kids” and Nirvana’s “Come As You Are.” If that wasn’t enough, they took it right in to a cover of the 80s one-hit-wonder “You Spin Me Right Round” (which is by Dead or Alive… I guess…)
