13 Artists to Watch Out for in 2013

Big Makk – Orlando’s Big Makk is just starting to get out-of-state gigs, but his music has been played all over the world in the past year. Most notably, king Bassnectar consistently drops his remix of Heartbreak’s “E.L.M.O.” to a huge reaction.

Krewella – Krewella has just begun to bust into the mainstream, but I only see them getting bigger. The mix of that scenester look and those undeniably sexy front-women is going to propel them to bigger and better things. Two Fresh – TWINS BASIL! The twins are killin’ it. From their hyphy, day-time, cottage set at Electric Forest to their Bassnectar NYE 360 opening slot, the Two Fresh twins have been the talk of 2012. No doubt  their success will continue throughout 2013. [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/61620841″ params=”” width=” 100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Shadow Child – As the popularity of deeper dance music rises, Shadow Child will be at the forefront of the explosion. His funky drops are completely infectious and he is an absolute beast at remixing. Look forward to hearing more from this producer–who is also known as Dave Spoon–all year long.

Joey Bada$$ – From the beats, to the flow, right down to the promo shots, Joey is old school. It sounds underground enough to play in front of your snobby hip-hop friends, but it can be fun enough to throw in at a party too. I haven’t come across a hip-hop head who doesn’t think this kid is the truth. The industry is starting to catch on and you should too.

Sir Charles – Jacksonville native Sir Charles has been steady on the rise for years now. This 21 year old producer has exploded, along with the trap scene, due to his knowledge of good-ass southern rap. He’ll be touring extensively and releasing new music throughout the year and we can’t wait to see what he does. Seven Lions – Seven Lions has 7 spots locked up in Beatport’s top 100 dubstep tracks, 4 of which are in the top 15. Skrillex only has 5 tracks in the top 100. There is something to be said here… As melodic dubstep’s popularity rises, Seven Lions is clearly on everyone’s mind. His production level is paired with soul and emotion that is unmatched by any other dubstep producer out there.

XXYYXX – Orlando’s XXYYXX has been all over the blogosphere this year due to his youthful age and production quality. While artists like Purity Ring and Flying Lotus led the chill-wave beatmakers of 2012, this young cat was right behind them. 2013 could definitely be the year he plays to big audiences and is in the same league as those aforementioned names. Disclosure – I think garage is going to have a nice explosion of popularity this year. The b2b boiler room set with Skream brought a lot of exposure to the young duo, but with a spot already locked for Ultra 2013, it’s obvious they will keep rising.

Zoogma – WTF is a ZOOGMA?! Let’s be honest, by now you know, and by the end of 2013 I expect everyone to know just what the FUCK a Zoogma is. It’s a 5-piece livetronica act akin to STS9 that has slowly been taking the festival, jam and EDM scene by storm over the past year. With an album, extensive touring and festival appearances on the horizon for 2013, I can’t wait to see these dudes really blow up! Nicolas Jaar – I’m pretty sure Nicolas Jaar had a massive year everywhere except the United States. While America is infatuated with “EDM” and neo-ravey glitz and glam, other parts of the world are paying closer attention to unique, atmospheric music. Nicolas Jaar was atop a stunning list of 2012 live acts on ResidentAdvisor.net and I can only see him going up from here. Hopefully it will include some extensive US touring. Griz – Griz had a massive year in 2012, but the kid keeps growin’! After a stellar opening performance at BassLights, there is no doubt that ’12 is not the end of Griz’ growing popularity. He’s also got that ill collab project with the homie Gramatik, which is dope! [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/playlists/2268919″ params=”” width=” 100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]

HeRobust – We first saw heRobust at Impulse Music & Arts Festival and were blown away. The small crowd was super reactive as he displayed his trap bootlegs and dubstep remixes for the tastemakers of the year. Fast forward 6 short months and the kid is about to top Hype Machine. 2013: prepare to get BUSTED!
