Re:Generation Music Project (2012)

src: the untz

Ever wonder the driving force that got Skrillex together with the Doors? It was Hyundai and in case you didn’t know, they tapped the Crystal Method, DJ Premier, Pretty Lights and Mark Ronson to work with some of the world’s most influential talent. The goal was to create a masterpiece that is outside of their usual realm. The Crystal Method worked with funk music, DJ Premier got classical, Pretty Lights got country and Mark Ronson got Jazz.

The film has cameos and behind the scenes footage of musicians such as LeAnn Rimes, Mos Def, Erykah Badu, Nas, The Doors, The Berkley Symphony Orchestra and many more. Additionally, the film shows exclusive footage of Pretty Lights live at Red Rocks in Colorado and Skrillex live at Petco Park in San Diego. For any music lover this documentary is an awesome inside look at how electronic music is produced and how music has been created over the last 50 years. Furthermore, Re:Generation acts as the gap between the two very different musical styles.

While Re:Generation was in a few select theaters around the country, Hulu has just put up a free, limited-interruption stream brought to you by Hyundai. This is a much watch documentary for any music lover who is interested in the art of producing electronic music or even if you’re just interested in seeing how these unique, genre-bending tunes were created. The link to the free stream is provided below. Enjoy!
