Counterpoint Countdown: Top 10 most anticipated sets

With Counterpoint just a couple days, we’re breaking down the sets we are most looking forward to. These aren’t the only sets to be stoked on, not by a long shot. This is just some craziness we really can’t wait to see!!

Artist: Zoogma

Time Slot: Saturday 1:15-2:15pm

Why?: This live band’s jamtronica sound is a rare one at this festival. They will be just what you need to get your gears going early on Saturday. [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/52337811″ iframe=”true” /]

Artist: Adventure Club

Time Slot: Thursday 7:30-8:30pm

Why?: Adventure Club’s unique take on dubstep is sort of a novelty item. They do remixes of emo songs and respect melody, which are 2 things many dubstep producers don’t do. I’m particularly excited to see how they handle a massive crowd on Thursday. [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/playlists/2109151″ height=”200″ iframe=”true” /]

Artist: mim0sa

Time Slot: Friday 5-6pm

Why?: The word “trap” is new to many, but not Tigran. This kid has been killing this sound for a long time now and he is one of the best to do it. With his style finally the flavor of the day, I can expect to see him commanding an insane crowd. [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/57198032″ iframe=”true” /]

Artist: Pretty Lights

Time Slot: Saturday 10:15-12am

Why?: Pretty Lights kills it live and an hour forty-minute time slot is a huge rarity. I can’t wait to see his new production live and hear some new tracks in between PL classics. [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/44527580″ iframe=”true” /]

Artist: Pretty Lights Music Showcase

Time Slot: Saturday 6:15-10:15pm

Why?: If Derek is Counterpoint’s glitch hop God, then Gramatik, Michal Menert, Supervision and Paul Basic are Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Moses and Abraham. These homies are going to hold down that sound for 4 hours leading up to Derek’s epic set. I can’t wait for people who haven’t seen these guys to see just how they kill it live! Artist: heRobust

Time Slot: Saturday 1:30-2:15pm

Why?: While it sucks he is competing with Zoogma, Atlanta’s heRobust is going to be quite the spectacle. I’m sure his rap-heavy trap and dubstep is going to get tons of hometown love as he gets the dance party started on the last day. Artist: Lotus

Time Slot: Saturday 8:45-10pm

Why?: In a DJ-dominated lineup, I’m going to need some full band action personally. Lotus is one of the best live bands in their tour circuit and despite competing with Gramatik AND Skrillex for time slots, you should definitely see what they come with. Artist: Big Boi

Time Slot: Saturday 5:15-6:15pm

Why?: Big Boi in Atlanta? I shouldn’t have to give you a reason, but this legendary ATLien is one of the best live MCs, plays the best of his Outkast and solo verses and will be a great switch up from EDM. [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/51171735″ iframe=”true” /]

Artist: Bassnectar

Time Slot: Friday 10:15-12am

Why?: Lorin Ashton is the best and biggest dubstep DJ in the world. His sets combine every type of music in to his high-quality bass music. An hour forty-five minute time slot will allow him to play a headlining show set in the festival environment. We have a dragon parade planned for the festival as well. If you’d like to be a part of it, join the event page on Facebook. [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/56447075″ iframe=”true” /]

Artist: M83

Time Slot: Friday 7:30-8:45pm

Why?: Mostly because I missed them at Ultra due to technical difficulties. Their lush, gazing musical landscapes will be a great change of pace. Additionally, I’ve yet to see them live and have heard great things. [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/19087066″ iframe=”true” /]
